Why we created this toolkit

Truth matters. And so do the people you love.

The Holiday Conversation Toolkit was created by CrossExamined.org to help families bring truth and grace into their holiday gatherings. In a culture full of noise and division, the best gift we can give one another is a thoughtful, calm, and Christ-centered conversation.

Inside these pages (and the companion video), you’ll hear from trusted Christian apologists who have spent years helping believers think clearly and speak graciously about their faith — even when it’s difficult.

Our hope is that you’ll feel equipped to start conversations that build bridges instead of walls, and that every word you share will reflect the One who came to bring peace on earth.

As a BONUS gift, we’ve also included ‘The Top Ten Ways to Advance the Gospel at Holiday Dinners’ which is a printer-friendly PDF written by Dr. Frank Turek that you can share with your church, small group, etc. to help them foster meaningful conversations with their own friends and family.

Frank’s five simple rules for the holidays

“You can’t argue someone into the Kingdom, but you can love them toward it.”— Dr. Frank Turek
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”— John 13:35 (NIV)
  1. Pray before you speak.

Ask God for wisdom, timing, and love before every conversation.

  2. Ask, don’t accuse.

Questions show humility and invite dialogue instead of defensiveness.

  3. Listen carefully.

You can’t respond well until you truly understand the other person.

  4. Focus on truth, not victory.

Your goal isn’t to “win” — it’s to represent Christ faithfully.

  5. Love no matter what.

Whether they agree or not, let them see Jesus in you.
